Leading at the Top: Why Sisterhood Still Matters in the C-Suite
Leading at the Top: Why Sisterhood Still Matters in the C-Suit
There’s something powerful about walking into a room and not needing to explain yourself.
For many Black women in senior leadership, the journey to the top has often meant being the “only one” — the only Black woman at the boardroom table, the only voice advocating for equity, the only perspective rooted in lived experience that isn’t always represented or fully understood.
But here’s what we know: power doesn’t mean isolation.
The Myth of the Lone Leader
Leadership has long been romanticized as a solo pursuit — the idea of the fearless, self-made executive who rises through grit and grind. And while many of us have certainly mastered the art of navigating systems that weren’t designed with us in mind, we also know that real leadership is sustained by connection.
It’s not just about being excellent at what you do.
It’s about having a circle that sees you, supports you, and sharpens you.
Why Community Is a Power Strategy
At Fonde, we believe sisterhood is a leadership strategy, not a luxury.
When Black women in leadership come together:
- We exchange game-changing insights.
- We challenge each other to stretch beyond comfort zones.
- We normalize joy, rest, and wellbeing as part of success.
- We build pipelines, open doors, and rewrite legacy.
That’s not networking. That’s nation-building.
Creating Space for Real Conversations
In a world that often pressures us to perform perfection, Fonde is a space where Black women leaders can bring their whole selves — ambitious and exhausted, bold and still figuring it out, powerful and vulnerable.
We don’t shrink here.
We don’t compete here.
We rise together, rooted in authenticity and shared purpose.
What’s Next for Us?
This season at Fonde, we’re leaning into radical support: curated conversations on board readiness, generational wealth, wellness for high-performing women, and the politics of power.
We’re reminding each other that we’re not alone — and that your presence at the table is not just necessary, it’s revolutionary.
